| Co-Presidents' Message
Yes, it took two of us to fill Fred Sharp’s shoes! Ruth Rogers and Karen Rich are the Bach Fest Board’s new co-Presidents, and we hope to present a week of fine music that will be everything you’ve come to expect!
This year, the Board is dedicating the 2010 Bach Fest to Fred Rarden, in recognition of all that he has done on behalf of this organization over the years. Fred has been a motivating force since the very beginning of Bach Fest. Perhaps our own Bob Myers said it best in the November 2009 Newsletter.
The 2010 presentation of Bach Fest will begin on July 11th with the Young People’s Concert at North Shore Bible Church and continue all week, culminating in our final concert at Riverwalk Park on July 17th.
We are very pleased to welcome back Dan Baldwin for his 4th year as our Musical and Artistic Director. Our programming highlights include the works of Bach, Haydn, and Mozart as well as Handel, Grieg, Copland, and Richard Strauss. In addition, there will be music from the movies, Leroy Anderson and John Philip Sousa. With three Festival Concerts (including the ‘Pops’ Concert at Riverwalk Park), there’s sure to be music to appeal to everyone!
In addition, there will be our Monday through Friday noon concerts at the Methodist Church, morning Courtyard Concerts at the Episcopal Church on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and special programs for children on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
Our wonderful Bach Fest String Quartet will be playing at several area wineries during the week, and will be featured at our opening Festival Concert on Sunday, July 11th. Wineries include: Tunnel Hill, Vin du Lac, Wapato Point Cellars, Hard Row to Hoe, Rio Vista and Benson.
As always, we thank our sponsors and donors, without whom we simply wouldn’t be able to present Bach Fest. We are also extremely grateful for our Board members, Executive Director and volunteers, who work very hard each year to bring these concerts to life.
Check back with us again – we’ll be finalizing the plans for our Fundraiser Dinner and Auction in June and will post the details!
We can always use more help and fresh ideas, so if you are looking for an opportunity to support the arts and work with a very appreciative group, please let us know you’re available!
Sincerely,
Karen Rich and Ruth Rogers
